So it's the first week away from camp and it's always such a change to go back to a "normal" pace of things. Refreshing, yes, but also now I'm back to work conundrum. However things are moving along. In other news I went to a High End Systems open house up in SF and got to look at some of the latest products. Holly shit awesome stuff, also extremely expensive. More on this (with a pic) later on.
Of course as expected the "I'm going to blog!" never held up. Note to self: Don't promise blogging when still at camp.
So workstuff briefly: As per the last entry I'm still doing work with Theatre Works and that currently is my mainstay in theater work. I just this week applied for the soon-to-open Apple Store right here at the Hillsdale mall. I do know I applied right at the end of the hiring timeline, so it's anyone's guess if I'll get it. Here's to hoping! It's still just a matter of more networking and sending the resume around. Hopefully I can net some more work this time around. Got a few ideas/a company to network with from the High End open house (read on.) The other work "opportunity" is DJ'ing, which that is a case of me just being hugely lazy. As usual the plan is to get a new mix together, and get word out there but like you, I'll believe it when I do it.
The usage of "open house" always causes some confusion so I shall just explain. High End Systems is one of the leading companies who makes moving lights and the new sector of "digital lights" (aka a projector which moves.) The "open house" is simply they set up a bunch of the latest gear at a venue and then invite industry people to stop in and take a look. Cross of marketing and industry networking. The coolest part was getting to see the latest products; the DL.3, Showpix, and the Showgun. All very expensive devices (DL.3 is $10,000) but really impressive. The DL.3 takes the cake (pictured right), basically think of a typical moving light you'd see at rock concerts. Now put a projector inside it. So you've got a projector which you can move around and focus anywhere, and attached to it is a media server which can dish up all sorts of effects and 3D transformations. Definitely a cutting edge product.
Now I was going to wrap up with a "ok, I'm gonna blog more", but I've said it a thousand times, and you don't care to hear it again so I'm gonna skip it. Though it has become a point of frustration given that I have started writing when the mood suits rather than making a note and trying to return to it later. Thus I have several writings lined up which most just need a final edit and can be posted. Case and point: As of currently I have three fully written drafts, and two more outlined articles (not including this one.) So there ya have it– hopefully I'll get more stuff from draft to posted, more workstuff, blah, blah, etc. I'll just wrap it up with a general "here's to 'sticking to the plan'."
