Slacking on blog. Yes, more work. New comment system feature!

So as you would expect from me I've neglected my blog for awhile. It seems like me posting regularly is about as predictable as me not posting for a short bit. Anyway I'll spare the usual "oh well I need to, blah blah blah" shit and get on with it. So not much to chat about. Some more theater work with ACT in San Francisco and the funny quirks of the Zeum theater. The big news bulletin is a new feature for the comment system which I'm sure you will like.

So we've got about two weeks to touch on. Finally got things rolling with iD tech camps, so I'm on board with them again. We're testing out camp stuff in only a few weeks, basically running a mini-camp (aka beta camp) to see how the new curriculum and software works. I actually got talked into teaching programming. Yes the person who went from computer engineering to theater arts is gonna teach programming. Actually I'm just going to be dealing with basic Java and such so won't be too bad. I'll just have to refresh my memory on it.

In theater news I got some work with ACT in San Francisco. Was good to branch out to other companies, adds to the networking. The Zeum theater is a funny space. So it has a tension grid so we can work on stuff above the stage. BUT whoever designed the theater thought it would be a good idea to put all of the ducting at the SAME height as our heads. Great, just fucking brilliant. So needless to say it involves a lot of ducking under stuff, hitting your head, and eventually just walking around up there constantly stooped over.

Now the big item currently is a newly added feature to the comment system on this site. Previously if you left a comment I had to approve it before it would show up on the site. It was a dumb way to do it and often meant that things wouldn't appear to the public until days after they were written. I really wanted instant posting but due to spam bots and all that shit I had to set it up that way to keep shit from being posted on my site. Part of the solution was to add a spam filter, which I've had for several months in place. But still no instant posting.
Fortunately Drupal announced a captcha module for the system. What is that you say? A captcha is one of those question challenge things to determine if a user is human. The most common ones are those weird squiggly letters and you have to type them into a box. Of course there are also ones where it will say "type the one which doesn't belong." and it will list say dog, cat, green, monkey. You get the idea. Sooooo I have added a captcha system to this site for the comments. It's the standard image– type this in dealio. The main advantage is that (assuming your message isn't filled with spam links) it will post immediately. Hooray! I'm excited, and I hope you are too. This is the first site to get the new feature and eventually I will add it to the other sites: NeilMG.org and DJEth.com.

So 'tis all for now. I've got a bunch of blog topics so hopefully I'll have some interesting stuff coming for ya soon and regularly. (The new goal, laugh if you must, is updates twice a week.)
