mwiz100's blog
Well I think this entry officially takes the cake for being the longest time between two entries: 7 weeks, almost 8. Yep folks It's been that long. For those of you who have been wondering what's up, thanks for keeping interested. And the rest of you have probably just fucked off.
So in my usual fashion I'm going to touch on what's happened in the past... two months. Tho I'm going to just wiz thru them and touch on the important ones. I'm needing to backtrack through my calendar as there is NO way I'd remember that far back on my own.
Alrighteo, so last entry was right after I had just moved into my place in Santa Cruz. So this year I'm living off campus with Albert and Shannon. It's a nice house, not huge, but just the right size for the three of us. It's conveniently close to campus; walking and with a shuttle bus it takes me only 15 minutes to get to theater arts. That's about as long as it took me to walk from my on campus apartment to TA... Wow. I'm really enjoying being off campus this year. I've got more space and it's nicer and it's more away from campus. As a result of it being away from campus I tend to make better use of my time on campus, I go to more places, hang out at various places, I've spent way more time at the GLBT center this year so far than I ever did in the past three years combined. Anyway, it's a good year and off campus, as much of a forced option it was, it was a good move.
Ok, moving along without making this thing a short novel... The first beginning week of class was nuts. There was the Boardwalk frolic as usual, which was a blast as always. Rode the Giant Dipper twice, maybe three times, gowad I love that coaster. Kinda sad, that was the last time I'd get to do the Boardwalk frolic as a UCSC student. (That's unless I'm here another year. How the fuck that'd happen I have no idea...) Next day, Wednesday me and Zach began the drive down to LA. "But classes start on Thursday!" you say. Right, we had already arranged to not be there. Trip down was fine, minus my speeding ticket. Anyway stayed at a Ramada in Canoga park, really nice place. Free wi-fi, flat screen TV, clean, fancy furniture, nice breakfast options. Anyway we were down in LA to go to High End Systems to take the class on the Hog 3 Console. In short the awesome-est light board, which is used on the majority of all concerts and stuff with lots of moving lights.
So thus we start the quarter. Things were off to a good start, just getting back from LA and learning the awesome Hog 3 console. Intro modern dance was proving to be a fun and exciting class, Tandy Beal is an awesome teacher. Usual socials and mixers for the beginning of the year. Now given that I'd played a deal of Ultimate (frisbee) over the summer I had given thought about playing it here at UCSC. Well I saw some flyers for Slug Ultimate, the UCSC ultimate team. The long and the short of it was I went out for the team on the first day of practice. Well, weeks later I'm still with it and now on the B team. Woooo! It's kinda odd getting back into the organized team sports stuff after being out of ice hockey for several years now. Anyway it's proving to be fun and it's helping to get me out and keeping me in shape.
So next week, (week 2 of classes...) That weekend was the Download festival up at Shoreline in Mountain View, lots of good bands, it was awesome. Got to see one of my favorites Muytator again. Also discovered a new band, Kinky, they're awesome. Lots of hype around Coheed & Cambria, didn't like them at all. But I was there for..... MUSE. Oh fucking yes. I got to see them live, that was so awesome and SO worth the ticket price alone. I ran into lots of folks I knew there, good times. I took off after Muse, that was my band I was there for. Most people were there for Beck and such, tho I'm not a fan of his stuff. Apparently he puts on a great show, but, eh...
So folowing weekend was a great party that Elven hosted at his place. Swanky jazz party, dress to impress. We had a WELL stocked bar and I brought all my bartending supplies. Started out small, grew to be huge. It eventually got broken up and we all got written up. I got off with just a finger wag "don't do it again." (This was almost a month ago now, so it's been resolved since it happened.) Still, great party. I made some nice tips. (Detail: party was on Friday, sat was kinda recovery day... I think.)
So as being on the Ultimate team, there are tournaments we go to... The following weekend the first one was up in Chico. I was a driver, etc... Was a fun time, played A LOT of ultimate and got to experience the Chico party. Wow. Something like 12 kegs there, maybe more. I lost count. So that was a good weekend.
So one would think after all of this crazyness, I'd take a break right? Nope.... Following my weekend in Chico the next weekend it's off to Vegas! (We're at Oct 20-22, fri-sun now.) So a whole bunch of us design students from theater arts headed up to Vegas for LDI, which is a HUGE lighting and tech trade show that happens once a year. All of the latest lighting, projection, stage, trussing, sound, light boards, pyrotechnics, special effects, etc is there. It's awesome. That was a GREAT weekend, lots of cool shit, lots of hanging out, and whatnot. This was actually my first time going to Vegas. My overall thoughts about it, it's "OK." The overall atmosphere of Vegas doesn't totally grab me. For one I really miss CA's no indoor smoking laws. And also given that I don't gamble that removes a lot of stuff. However the entertainment is endless, along with the bars and there were some good looking clubs there. Wanted to hit up at least one club, but never got the opportunity to. Anyway, still a great trip.
Wow, that brings me right up to this weekend. So this weekend was Rocky Horror picture show, good times as usual. Dylan really took it seriously this time, made a few trips up to SF to go shopping. Ended up getting a pair of custom fit leather trousers. Actually look rather nice on him. QUITE expensive. Anyway.
Alright, other things to talk about that I haven't touched on. So one requirement for intro modern dance, is to take three other (just one drop in each) different styles of dance. So I took intro jazz dance downtown at Motion Pacific and also took intro hip-hop, and at a place in Soquel took a Scottish country dance class. (We had to do a cultural dance project so this covered both requirements.)
Well, intro hip-hop was a fun class and at the end of the first one I decided to continue to take the class. So I paid for that and such. And that's been a fun start of my week. It's every Monday evening so it really helps to get my week off to a good start. I've felt I was doing well which was confirmed today at the end of class; I was chatting with our teacher and she told me "Hey you did really well today!" Which was nice to hear. I'm already thinking of continuing and taking another round next quarter.
On the DJ front, I finally purchased the CD player I've been meaning to buy. No I didn't get a Pioneer CDJ-1000Mk3. I DID get a Denon DN-D4500 which is a dual-deck player. No scratching, but it's a really good solid unit. A VERY good investment, my skills have seen major improvement since I started using it. Traktor was just proving more problems than it was helping. The big pain is that I have to make CD's of everything, which takes hours upon hours. I don't want to put tracks that later on I'm going to say, "Ah dammit! I want to play that one next, but noo it's on the same disk!" So it's a tasking procedure to make disks that are well thought out. In addition to ripping my vinyl collection. It's a slow process but it's moving along well. I've got a decent quantity on CD already. I've been mixing more regularly recently, and I'm really enjoying it as I've got things down nicely.
A new mix will be coming your way in a short time. Hopefully I'll be following that with my demo mix, which I plan to mail out to various venues downtown and maybe some of the colleges on campus. Yes, I hope to DJ in town, and ideally continue from there. Especially in Santa Cruz there is a saturation of hip-hop DJ's, and at that most of them aren't that good. I want to change things up, and get some good groovy, funky, techy house tunes going. It's a bit lofty of a goal, to actually establish myself as a known DJ in at least the area, but I'm going for it.
Anyway, on the theater front. It's been pre-production for two pieces this quarter. I start out the year with nothing in fall, and now I'm designing on two shows, practically overlapping. I'm doing media for "The Shape of Things" which goes into tech this weekend. I'm also doing a lighting design for a dance/movement show down in the barn, "Bending Tradacion." Tech ends for one, and starts for the next, with only one day between. Yep, it's nuts. AND I've got an Ultimate tournament to play as well one weekend. (Fortunately we're hosting it so I'll be in town.)
Crazy times ahead. But hey, this quarter already has been probably the best yet: I've been quite busy with everything but enjoying it all, and
still having social time.
So that's all for now. Thanks for hanging in there and making it to the end. Damn thing took an hour to write without leaving out details. So as per some update pages have said, the plan is I'm going to save some content from the forums (along with a full database archive) re-appropriated, but I am getting rid of them altogether. The content system is getting an upgrade and I'm going to tinker with some new features, shall see...
And, ummm yeah. There you go. So another thing for myself to do is to get back to regular blogging and web site work! Righto, that's all for now!

Alrighteyo, so just going to touch on a few things as I want to get to sleep cuz I've got plenty to do tomorow.
So as the title says, I've finally moved down to my place in Santa Cruz. It was crazy, lots of packing and shit. We had my car full, in addition to my dad's large (Dodge Ram) van and my mom's Caravan. Yeah... Lots of shit. But Furniture takes up a deal of space. Anyway so that got off to a late start as we had to figure getting stuff into the cars. Anyway so got down to santa cruz in good time. Traffic in town was very light, it's that one week dead time. Anyway, unpacking went well given there was 5 of us to deal with everything. So the upshot is that I've got the basics of my room set up. I still have to deal with a deal more shit that's in boxes but that will happen in due time. Shannon still has to move in and we've still got lots of boxes in the living room to take care of.
On the other hand, I'm liking my room, it's cozy and cool. The tables I got from my mom's work are fantastic and I love my hanging lamp I got from IKEA.
So plenty of stuff to deal with later today (monday) and then I've got work (only 3 hour jobies) from wed thru saturday. So yeah.... And then off to LA for a few days.
I've got some serious upgrades to do to this site, well to the backend that is, nothing that you'll notice (I hope....) I am planning on getting rid of the forums, just FYI. Also need to up the security as I've been a target for crazy fucking asshole spammers. There are currently 450 comments that have been submitted to my site all of which contain spam links. Fuckers. So if anyone's noticed that comments have been turned off, that's why. Thank the spammer assholes.
Other news, saw "The Protector," actually titled "Tom yum goong" that would just be the English market title. Anyway, great movie. Like Tony Jaa's previous movie, "Ong Bak," about half way thru the movie you completely loose track of the plot. I will say the plot is a bit more pertinent in this movie and has a better "message" or whatever behind it. One thing that gains this movie HUGE good points is this GREAT scene that occurs. So Tony Jaa busts into the secret back area of this resteraunt, the VIP area, and starts kicking major ass. So he's going around the building, going up floors and up and up. Now get this shit, I have no idea how long it is, at least 5 minutes, mabey 10, and the whole thing is one single long take. It's fucking awesome. I mean I'm a huge fan of one/long takes not only because the look good, they're REALLY hard to pull off espically with a movie like that. So go see it.
Righto, so that's all for now. More details later.

Mmmmm yeah, been needing an entry. So past week, umm can't remember much of it. Probably as the only thing I really remember is alot of sitting on my ass. Yep. Not very productive at all, at least that's how I remember it.
As for this weekend on the other hand, totally fun. Went down to Santa Cruz as it was Courtney's 21st and we were all meeting up from various parts of the bay et al for the ocasion. So Friday night I made a point to finally go down to San Jose and play at one of the weekley air hockey tournaments. Colin drove up from SC to meet me there as I was making a point to go. It was a small turnout at only 4 guys. But hey, it was fun. Got my feet wet in the real world of competitive air hockey. Needless to say I placed last, but hey when you're playing against some seriously good people (like #2 in the state) it's going to be tricky even with some serious point offsets (handycap). Anyway, that went on for awhile and need to make a point to go again sometime.
So once that wraped itself up (which was like at 10:30pm) I headed down to Santa Cruz from there. Finally got into town and got to Quentin's place, which was where the party was at. Got there to mostly a finished party and a very drunk Dylan, yeah. Wow. Most of the night for me composed of helping taking care of him and then just long semi-deep discussions. And finally a shitty short hours of sleep. So went to Denny's for breakfast, that was actually pretty good. And then... oh Boardwalk. I basically just dropped off the folks who were riding with me and then headed off to my aunt & uncle's place to look at some furniture. They've got a bunch of stuff that's extra and I could have, so given the price is right I went to take a look and get some stuff for my place. That knocked out two hours actually, but no worries, it was actually refreshing to just go and chill for a bit. At that point they were all done with the Boardwalk and we went..... Hmmmm can't remember that part. Oh I remember, Sammy was goign to get a tattoo at Staircase, which really didn't involve the rest of us. At that point I got a call from Elven who was in SC and was meeting up with us. So once we were all together we went somewhere. Where, I don't remember.
Eh jump to evening, so we all got ready to go to Caution for her b-day and dancing and such. So we got there early to make use of free entry. Different night (saturday) and DJ there from Z97.5 or something. Actually probably one of the better DJ's I've heard there. Party took FOREVER to get going tho. I mean things really didn't get going until.. hmm.... 10:30 mabey later? It was to the point where I know me and Elven were about to bounce and go hit up some bars. Fortunately did get going. Usual caution sorta thing tho, lotsa young'uns and such and really not my thing in total.
Due to my insisting that we bar hop, we finally did. This would have been a slight issue as Sammy was there (not 21) but she decided to take off at some point when we were at Caution. I honestly don't get her, Mrs. Attitude. Whatever. So that was that issue not to have to worry about. So I finally at about 12:30 or so dragged Courtney and everyone else out to hit up some bars. We only did about three or so before people started to want to go. That and I was sorta running out of options given it was Saturday and there is often cover charges. Anyway at that point we split and went our ways to go sleep. David went with Quentin and Courtney and Elven went with me. Must say, I've got quite a comfy carpet at my place.
Anyway, Sunday got up did Breakfast/brunch at Taqueria Vierta and then went to the Boardwalk for.... 4 hours or so. I got a parking ticket, joy. OH! Got to see the Roaring Camp train come down to the boardwalk. That was amusing on so many levels, when they're going back: right down the street- against traffic. Train versus many cars, who wins? :D Alrighteyo so then that evening, went to chill at our places, Courtney wanted to shower and such. So that was for awhile, me and Elven just kicked it at my place, reading/napping/IM'ing. Finally it's like "fucking hungry." The long and the short was that we ended up doing grilled cheese at my place. That was fun and such. After that, headed back up to the bay. Dropped off Elven and went home. Sleep.
Now today, well. Ok day nothing speical. May I say what the fuck is up with the spammers lately? Not only have they been sending out emails like crazy, they're hitting up personal sites. Ok so we've all been getting more spam than normal and it's been leaking thru our filters. Well, someone's gone REALLY low. So I've got comments on for my blog. Well some fucking dickhead figured how to bot that. So I log into my site, and I've got 6 pages of new comments to approve. There are 50 per page. Yes in that short period of time, after deleting previous ones that had made it in AND turning moderation on (won't show up till I approve it.) I get 300 new ones. Yay, fucking assholes that think of this shit. I mean this is REALLY low, using someone else's webspace and bandwith to put their ads with links on. I'd like to keep the comments, but at this rate unless the new system has something good it in, I'm turning them off for good.
And that is that. And yeah. So this week is just me figuring out shit for what's got to get to my apartment. I've got to get everything together as I am moving into my place in one week and then working for various events and then school starts. Crazy times. My three big things for the house right now are figuring out the furniture, rather important really....; Lighting. Yes would you expect any less from me?; and lastly TV's, with 120 satellite channels I'd like to make use of them. So that is that. Ba bam. Also have to sit down and figure out finances for this year as some of my funding is, well shrinking so more of it is going on me. I need to basically work more to pay for my increased expenses. No living off my summer paychecks. That sucks. Anyway, that is that sleepies now.
Oh lastly the movie "Pirate of Silicon Valley", the movie about Jobs, Woz, and Gates is quite intersting. Good watch for anyone who's into the tech stuff. Righto, go now.

Well as it states, camp is OVER! This last week was the last week and what a week it was. As I mentioned in my last entry it was really odd having so few kids, and it was. It was actually at times harder having less kids. I think it was because most of us were slacking and such which is what ultimately made it harder. Anyway, the big trick this week was that family showcase was on thursday which meant that we actually had one day less to work on stuff. For video this made things really tricky. And my class this week was not my ideal class. I had the middle aged kids. And in a class of 6 kids, I have one white guy.
Yep. Now granted that didn't mean the rest were problematic. To be "PC" I had a class of 5 African-American girls (all ages 12-13) and one white guy. Oh dear. I predicted this when I saw my class list just off the names, and so it was. The class as a whole had a deal of odd quirks, my one guy was rather quiet and in some ways just as he was the odd one out. As for the girls well having a class of that many girls of that age (irregardless or race) was going to be a challenge. Overall they were rather a fun group. During filming they were the best as many of them actually were rather
into performing. But when it came to the class part,
that's where things got sticky and I started loosing patience with many of them. It was rather annoying when I'd tell them to do something and then come back and nothing had been done, and I'd ask why and the reply would be "I don't know how." when I had specificallly told them how earlier in the day/week. I mean in all fairness I always get fustrated with kids who do that. However the whole time half of my class just wasn't trying, at least that what I saw. I'm showing them one-on-one how to do it, and then they're like "I don't know how." But I had the other half of them who put in their effort.
Stephen (my one guy) was a godsend during crunch time. We were short on burners and I had to go get the other one from the other house, but was still burning discs for them at the time, so he took over the changing discs and testing them for me.
But yeah was sorta a flat week. BUT! Wednesday night was awesome. So I was off on monday and wed night so we had this plan to go to one guy's house (he's a commuter, doesn't stay overnight) and cook/bake. So we went to safeway and did some shopping and then went to his house. His house is in the Palo Alto hills, shit. 5 Mil easy. Anyway so we cooked stuff and such. A few of the others made pasta and redsauce. I decided to do the Hawaiian pineapple chicken. Always been a hit with my friends, and was definately a hit this evening, grilled it and everything this time. There was also butter cookies and also crepes for dessert. Mmmmmmm yummy evening. After that we all relaxed in his hot tub. Yep, that was awesome. And a jump into the pool in between was a nice refresher. Going from a 90+ degree spa to a cool 78 degree pool is a bit of a shock. I also was reminded of how shitty my swimming has gotten. I need to get myself back up to speed. Anyway that was an awesome evening.
So back to camp. Yeah Friday was the final day, packing everything up. It was really starteling going back into the houses after RentSys had packed up stuff. Wow empty. Anyway so after all the kids were gone we finished with cleaning everything out and also lent a hand packing up the computers. Wowie. After that we took a quick break to clean up as it was a company party at Buca di Beppo. That was fun, all 28 or so of us there. We had Shane as our waiter, who I knew from the last time we were there. He's hella cool. So yeah we were being our usual crazy selfs, doing acknowledgments and whatnot. Even sung a bit of "We Are the Champions." But that was fun.
After that, it was time to PARTY! After all, we have three houses and no kids or computers. So after a stop at the liquor store we gathered at one of the houses and Ba BAM it was party time. I finally purchased and got a taste of Bombay Saphire Gin, and also did the gin and tonic thing. Wow, I see why this is such a staple. Anyway the down side of the evening was that we had a miror ball, and long story short some of the mirors fell off and I put my hand on one. So I've got a nice slice on my hand. Fortunately it's healing well. Didn't sleep so well, just crashed on one of the beds in Slav, and yeah. Aparently there was something that happened during the night involving a bottle and someones head, and I have no idea. But the Sheriff was there in the morning. But it was a bitersweet departure. Yes we were done with everything and that was nice but it was sad to have to leave this fantastic group of people that I had spent my summer with. Ah well, shal keep in touch.
So that was that. Got home and started sorting out my things. And that's where we're at now. I've basicaly been sleeping alot and just chilling. Fortunately I've worked out the kinks mostly with my fall schedule. I AM going for the High End Systems training on the Hog 3 lighting board. I've worked out my major pinch in my schedule, I've got a spot secured in the over-enroled intro dance class. Thank goodness for good connections. So time to treasure the last two weeks before I have to go into moving mode again, and 3.5 weeks or so before class actually starts. Righto, time to do the dinner thing.
Oh and stay tuned on this site and on neilmg.org for updates. Mabey some new mixes here, and a new design there. Later.
- By mwiz100 at 08/27/2006 - 5:12pm
So so so.... Past week was, different. I had the oldest class for the week and also the oldest class I've ever had at ages 14 to 16. That was definately different given at that age they are alot smarter and often will do their own thing. Yep. Little kids often get distracted easily, but will keep to what they're doing. These guys..... flash games like nuts. That and trying to get past the system security. Anyway the end movie was recieved by other instructors and family much better than I had initially thought of it myself. so that's always a perk.
So as for the weekend, on to that! So Friday was fun times. All of us from work went to Laser Quest and had a private game. That was fun to play again. Then we went to see Snakes on a Plane. Omg... that movie is so bad it's brilliant. Definately will be a cult movie, if it's not already. And then we headed to In N Out after that. Yay....
So then on to Saturday, that was QUITE a day. Now I slept in a deal as I was up late. Woke up to get a haircut, car was out. Did finally get one tho. Got home, I think I did, hell what did I do? Anyway. Later that evening I went to the San Mateo county fair with my brother. There was a group called Mutaytor performing and looked interesting. Well going to the fair was well worth it. Was a good evening out, and Mutaytor was AWESOME!!!! I don't know how to fully explain it. Lots of percussion. LOTS!!! They're cool, check them out.
Then, as has been planed for almost a month now, and I'd keep getting pushed back. So FINALLY we had saturday set in. Originally we were goign to go up to San Fran, but then it was like "eh." And Brian sugested just going to Dakotas in Santa Cruz, now that sounded like a good idea to me so I made the drive down.
Well that was a FUN evening. One, I got to see him and hang out. It's been fucking forever. And two just got to chill and dance some and have a drink or two. (Well it was actually one...)
Now the latter part of the evening, that was sorta odd. So we go to leave, and I go to pick up my sweatshirt. Aparently there was a mixup and this other guy picked it up. Well fortunately he was just outside so I was able to get it from him. Shortly after I reclaimed my jacket, he called me over. I could tell immedately he was getting more than friendly with me. This was evident when he was getting much closer to me, and so on so forth. And there was some short making out, and so on... And yeah, totally wanted me to come with him. But I was being totaly counter to that. Not that I'm oposed to that, cuz I wouldn't have been making out with him if that was the case. No, I was here with my friend and I came here to hang out with him, not to hook up. Sorry, gimme your number and I'll call you. Which he was holding his number ransom from me for quite some time ideally in hopes of me giving in and just coming along.
And ya know, I still feel like such a prick. Cuz shit, I was so going along with this guy early on. I mean in one way I look back on it and I'm kinda suprised how I've actually got the whole "standard" down and do the whole flirt thing (to my advantage) well. But the whole time I kept feeling like such an asshole cuz I'm doing all this shit right there IN FRONT of my friend. Fucking a, I'm such a prick at times. And Brian even told me that I could have gone along with my new "friend." But I told him, no way I was here to chill with him. And even tho I said it a few times then to him, I still feel like an ass for that. I mean not to make excuses but the other guy DID start it first.
So after that we just walked around and then sat down and chatted some with Brian. Was good to catch up about stuff and just to talk in general. Finally left there, oh no idea, late, like 3am maybe. Well not that late, whatever.
Now here's where it starts getting scarry. I'm driving back to San Mateo and I can feel my car's not acting right, and I mean on an engine level. So I'm noticing some odd knocking vibrations/feelings coming from the engine, so I take it easy. Which is kinda a letdown cuz it's like 3am on highway 17, so you can fly thru it doing wide turns and such. Blah. Anyway I sort of do weird throttling to keep it on par as it was loosing and re-gaining power intermittently. So finally I see my "Check Engine" light come on. FUCK, my immedate reaction. May I say that when the only light you can see is your headlights shining on area in front and your dash lights, that little warning light is DAMN ASS bright! Anyway, the good news is I got home fine. The car tho is currently "flagged" as "Do not drive. Get to mechanic STAT."
So hopefuly it won't be too bad. But it could be some serious issues, or something not too bad. I'm thinking it's either the ignition system, but more likely I think it's something up with the fuel injection system. Given the nature of the intermittence of the problem and how I used twice as much fuel on the trip back, that's my thought of the issue. We shal see.
Anyway so back to camp, it's the last week!! So far it's odd, it feels so small, with only 15 overnight kids to take care of, 50 or so overnighters in total. Normally we're at 80 or so almost, and typically 216 campers daily in total. This week, it's like 135 campers daily in total.
Now the fun part comes next week, getting all my shit together for school and also moving into my new place. Blah. And I've still got to sort out classes and also figure out if I'm going to LA for the High End Systems training. Gowad I want to so badly, but it conflicts with the first day of classes. Given I don't have all my classes filled out, this is kinda a problem. Well shal have to get to that. Anyway, so that was this crazy weekend. Time to sleep now. Woo SUMMER!
- By mwiz100 at 08/20/2006 - 10:24pm
So ja... another week has past since the last entry. This isn't too bad, one week later. I'm going to try to get back into the blogging thing more when I get back to school. That's the idea.
Which leads me to thinking about how I need to sit down and figure my shit out. I also need to figure out my expenses. There is the High End Systems training on the wholehog lighting desk that I really want to take, but it conflicts with the first day of classes, and so on. And I'm basically royaly fucked on many levels. I need to figure my shit out. This is the last year, and I need to get it right. And yeah, shal we say departing anxiety setting in? Who knows..... Mabey it's just all the stress of camp getting to me.
Whatever. Speaking of camp, so last week the video was "challenging" to say the least. I had a class of entirely 11 year-old's. Yeah and one of them was definately problematic to say the least. And at that age they are always sorta a pain. As for this week, I've got the oldest kids. Now that I've been thinking about it, we're sooooo off of it with the movie they intend to make. It's a freaking special effects sequence. I got WAY to caught up in it during the planning stage, and wasn't there enough to really realise that "oh shit." So I'm not entirely sure what we're going to do about it. I really don't want to rain on their parade, cuz I love the idea. It's just not entirely on track. Fuckitall. We shal see. These kids are motivated to take the time to make this video work.
Anyway, as for me. This weekend was great! I mean it was the weekend I'd been needing majorly for a long time. Friday, was gogin to go up to SF for some clubbing, never did. Just WAY to fucking tired. Too many nights of only 4 hours of sleep this past week. So just had dinner with my mom and bro, showed them some of my kids' videos, and then hit the sack.
But saturday was great. Finally got up to San Francisco to go and just chill and also buy myself another pair of jeans. Got myself a nice pair of Levi's Boot cut (527) in a nice darker wash. Still lightly worn, but hey, when radio to the stockroom and ask they to bring out every 28X30 in that style and only 3 come out, it's pick one. Also intersting, the guy helping me his name was Niall, which is the Gaelic origin of Neil, but oddly as far as pronunciation went, it was the european way (like my name.) So was funny cuz the other guy on the floor was "Neil!" trying to get his attention, and was confusing the fuck outta me. Anyway, nice guy, similar (if not closely to identical) taste in jeans. Yay, I wanna wear them! (weather, cool off!)
Oh shit, forgot about Saturday evening! So friend from high school, Spencer was doing a little shindig at his place. He was a freshman when I was a senior at my high school. We've kept in good touch tho. Anyway that was fun and nice. Ended up sticking around for like.... many hours, till like 4am or some shit chatting, just 4 of us. But gowad that was fun, and odd at the same time. A deal of deep shit we chatted about, but at the same token just some good shooting the breeze. Late night conversations are, "intersting" in a nutshell.
Now in terms of odd stuff, yeah been thinking weird shit lately. Well not really thinking, just feeling odd shit based on what I know my mind is mulling over in the background. Ok, this is one thing that I believe, well hell I know it's one thing that's affecting it is like, tattoo's. Yep that's right I said it. You think, "What the hell sparks HIM to think about such?!" And well think about it, I'm a rather mold-able person. And if you think otherwise, think again, cuz I know myself better and I know that's the case. If I really stuck to my guns about "ideas" then I wouldn't be this majorlly openly gay (and rather stereotypical at times) guy. And also major fashion stuff, wouldn't be up to that either. But hey, society presses upon us, and most of us mold, I happen to often actively seek molding in. Sad? Eh, whatever let's skip that discussion for now.
Ok, so here at camp two guys (that I know of) have them, Trey who I know from UCSC and "Spooky." Are they anything major, nope. But both quite nice. So what sparked my intersting in such? Well of course they've always been sort of an icon of at culture as a way to ultimately make your mark, literally. There has always been the characters on the shoulder, or the Pacific island style bands, whatnot, all simple. But the thing is that for anyone who's ever thought about it serously, you can't have any wavering thoughts about it, it's not going away anytime soon. And of course any ideas I'd have were at the best, "mabeys." No, not going to work.
The real idea got going when I happend to read an Wikipedia article on Brent Everett. (You can go search it. That's all I've seen, shutthefuckup.) But what got me was the one he has on his left arm: two lines below his elbow going around his arm. VERY simple yet really elegant, really. So that got me thinking, and then I thought of a very interesting location sparked by one of my shirts. The inside/bottom side of the bicep. So Basically unless you've got your arm raised and no sleeves it's hidden. (Not that I'm trying to hide it.) That idea came from a Volcom shirt I've got that has a print basically on the armpit area of the shirt, quite cool, I love it. Now for the design, well lots of thinigs come to mind but many fade as fast as I came up with them. The one that keeps coming back again and again and again, is simply what this site is sorta built on, a box. But like in the logo, an isometric cube. I have no idea why it's so damn interesting to me, but it's something that I always drew as a kid. I loved to freehand prespective stuff. And in architecture in high school I loved doing isometric diagrams. And it was the instant idea for the logo for this site.
And since the creation of this site, there has been so much that this site has become. I mean really this site has been my portal, well more like everyone's portal into my inner thinkings given I tend to post them right here. But yeah, isometric/perspective cube. So yeah, I'm just goinng to leave it at that, why that fascinates me so much, and why it seems like a "good idea." In some ways I like it cuz it's just so damn simple and the location is like "wwwhhhaat?" And no stealing my ideas bitches!
And yeah that is that. I'm feeling the need for chill time. Literally and figuratively. I need to go ice skate some. It's always been one of my passive outlets. Well hockey was also a huge outlet. I need to make use of it. I think that's my wednesday. I think I need an ultimate break from camp for a bit, and I need some ice. Yep. But anyway this has been huge long entry of sifting thru weeks (if not months) of thoughts. Anyway sleepies time, need to teach and such in the morn. Laters!
